Zambia is home to the most remote and wildest wildlife reserves on the continent – and to the busy adventure capital of Africa, Livingstone, just seven miles from world’s largest waterfall Victoria Falls. The town offers everything you can imagine from the relatively subdued activity of viewing the thundering water to bungee jumping to flying over it. The Zambezi River which feeds the falls offers excellent river rafting, fishing and canoeing. This is an adrenaline-filled fun spot well worth visiting.
Removed from the hubbub of Livingstone awaits the real Zambia with its extraordinary wildlife. The overall climate here is mild and pleasant and the plains, river valleys and hills are full of life. Kafue National Park’s protected area is a vast treasure trove of variety of antelopes, wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, cheetah and lion as well as huge flocks of large birds such as maribou stork and secretary birds. Lower Zambezi National Park is located alongside the riverbank and you can see elephants swimming across and rhino lounging in the water. South Luangwa National Park, also located by a river, was the birthplace of the famous walking safaris that Zambia is known for. The country’s green landscape is also a birder’s paradise with more than 740 recorded species including the African shoebill and Boehm’s bee-eater.
