Sava Dunes
Sava Dunes is enviably located on a remote part of the Inhambane coast in Mozambique, and enjoys spectacular views of the coastline. 5 ocean facing suites are elegantly perched on the vegetation covered sand dunes, and each suite offers unsurpassed views of the beach, ocean and endless horizon. You can hear the waves from the comfort of your bed - don't be surprised to wake up to the sound of rolling breakers crashing onto the beach!
Wooden walkways join the main lodge area to each of the suites, and one main walkway meanders over the dunes and down to the beach. Enjoy morning walks on the beach, explore tropical seas during the heat of the day and relax in the lodge swimming pool in the evening. There's even a great swim-up bar in the main part of the lodge - also with sea views! Glide through the pool, grab your pina colada and enjoy the views.
In season, whales regularly visit the shores in front of the lodge, and you can even hear them from your balcony. Sava Dunes is a luxurious eco-friendly lodge in a quiet and remote area. Marine safaris, ocean activities and shopping trips to the local markets can all be arranged from the lodge. The location is quite a bit north of the small village of Tofo (roughly 5.5 km ) and close to the south of Barra beach (1.5 km).
There are 5 ocean facing suites at Sava Dunes, and each suite can be configured to be a double or twin. Suites have their own expansive wooden balconies with hammocks, and areas to sit. Beds face the ocean - you probably won't want to leave your suite! Bathrooms are open-plan, and have showers only. Beds have mosquito nets, solar-heated showers, and there are two South African 2 point plugs in each suite and 1 universal adaptor.
Surfing and Bodyboarding
There is a surfboard and bodyboards at the lodge. There's a small wave on front of the lodge, ideal for bodyboarding.
Swimming and Snorkeling
The Inhambane coastline is known for its abundant marine life, and the beach in front of Sava Dunes is the perfect place for a quick morning snorkel before breakfast. If you don't mind a few waves, then a spot of swimming is a must.
Whale Watching
From the comfort of the lodge it's entirely possible to spot dolphins and humpback whales breaching during season.
Sundowners on the Dunes
For the romantic at heart, we can arrange a dune sundowner session. We will pack a few drinks, lanterns and a picnic blanket and head up to one of the neighboring dunes to catch the sunsets.
Beach Walks
The location is quite a bit north of the seaside hub of Tofo (5.5 km ) and close to the south of Barra beach (1.5 km). Guests can enjoy a brisk beach walk, or opt for a lengthy beach walk to Tofo or enjoyable stroll to Barra.
Shopping at Tofo Market
Tofo market is a hub of activity, and there's plenty of local arts and crafts on sale. We suggest bargaining for your curios. There are plenty of wooden whale sharks, exquisite materials and traditional clothing on offer.
