True to the Wildplaces ethos—new properties are in hidden, out-of-the way corners of National Parks that most visitors don’t see. And as such, their exciting new Murchison Safari lodge presented some challenges. Almost impossible to get to, they had to machete their way through kilometers of bush just to access the site. But it was worth every painful step – the site is magical, secluded and exclusive.
Kulu Ora, The Heart of Murchison, a newly zoned low-use area of around 400 square kilometers, is far away from the main part of the National Park. Untrampled and virtually unexplored, this area is vast and wild, and they are more than excited to explore it with guests.
Kulu Ora means ‘river’ in two different local languages. This tented lodge is set on the shores of the Nile, just beneath a set of rapids where the Nile has been divided by a tangled jungle island. (wildplaces)
Tents 10
10 spacious tented suites are spread along the banks of the rushing Nile River. The muted and natural color palette – drawing from Wabi-Sabi traditions – encourages a sense of calm, drawing the attention out toward the energy of the river. Copper bathtubs and bespoke linen robes are a touch of luxury and color, while deep stone-lined private plunge-pools are a tonic to the heat of the afternoon.
Highlights:
10 big canvas-walled rooms (9 standard & one double family room with 2 bedrooms and shared living room).
Outdoor bath tubs
Private plunge pools overlooking the Nile

Kulu Ora (meaning “river” in two local languages), is nestled at the confluence of the Kisangani River and the mighty Nile, offering the chance to experience a private, exclusive wilderness far away from the park’s busy areas. The only crowds here are vast herds of Uganda Kob and the only noise is the roar of either a river or a lion.

As the first lodge in this newly zoned low-use area, Kulu Ora is pioneering conservation efforts in a previously unprotected section of Murchison Falls National Park. Their presence helps extend anti-poaching coverage and wildlife monitoring to this pristine area, while creating sustainable employment opportunities for surrounding communities. By choosing to stay with here, you’re helping establish a conservation foothold in one of Uganda’s last truly wild frontiers.
