Whale and Dolphin Monitoring

Each year, two distinct populations of Humpback whales grace these warm tropical waters to give birth, nurture their young, and engage in the timeless ritual of mating. From January to March, we welcome the North Population, journeying all the way from Alaska, while from July to October, the curious and friendly South Population becomes our seasonal guest. And that's not all - our waters also host other captivating marine inhabitants, including dolphins, Pilot whales, Bryde's whales, and more.

But what sets this program apart is that it's not your typical whale-watching tour. During our whale and dolphin monitoring excursions, we employ cutting-edge technologies and innovative methods to explore the lives of these magnificent creatures. We'll soar to the skies with drones to study and identify individuals, listen to the mesmerizing songs of whales using a hydrophone, work on photo identification, and document any intriguing or unusual behaviors we encounter. Dive into the world of marine conservation with us and help create a more sustainable world for whales, dolphins, and all marine life.

About Arboreal Tree Climbing

Arboreal Tree Climbing Experience is the only hotel tree climbing park in Costa Rica.  We partnered with El Mosqueton, an outdoor adventure developer, to craft our tree canopy and arboreal experience. As you climb through our circuit of trees, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes, overlooking Drake Bay.

The trees are equipped with handhold pieces designed specifically for climbing trees; attached with straps, preventing any harm or damage to the tree. Our tree climbing experience is also complemented with automatic belay systems, meaning, you will be attached to a safety certified device at all times.

Early Bird Tour

Your day will begin early, and we will have coffee and tea before the excursion. Each tour guide has their unique tour, which could depend on recent sightings or activities. Some tours may include a stop on the property where we hope to have a chance to observe Scarlet Macaws, Chestnut Mandibled Toucans, Brown Pelicans, and Magnificent Frigatebirds.

The tour may also include the "Inspiration Point," where we hope to see many different birds, including Scarlet Tanagers, Summer Tanagers, Red-capped Manakins, Red-legged Honeycreepers, Turquoise Cotingas, Scarlet-rumped Caciques, White–vented Euphonias, Yellow-billed Caciques, Eastern Meadowlarks, Blue-black Grosbeaks, and Black-striped Sparrows. Of course, we will also have an excellent chance to see other wildlife and admire the butterflies floating above us, especially the blue morphos, which are spectacular in the morning light. As the mist rises off the rainforest floor and the majestic trees tower above, you will feel harmony and peace, like the first primeval forest explorers.
