VISIT SCHOOLS AND VILLAGES AND GO ON SAFARI

Join a small group of friends (max 10) to work in our schools and literacy centers in the South Luangwa Valley of Zambia. During the 14-day trip you will be hosted by Thornicroft Lodge on the banks of the Luangwa River as well as a night at Mfuwe Lodge and 2 Bushcamp properties in the park. All meals included.
Each weekday morning the group will participate at either our literacy centers or at the foundation (leadership) program. Afternoons are free to do many other activities including additional game drives. Saturdays have several fun options available including visiting Chipembele Wildlife Education Center, participating in working side by side with local villagers in making Textiles at Tribal Textiles, making jewelry at Mulberry Mongoose, shopping at the local shops in the village, watching a detection dog demo at Conservation South Luangwa base or just taking a tour of the local village of Mfuwe. All transportation from Lusaka is included.
Sundays are reserved for game drives in one of the most amazing national parks in Africa. One in the early morning and one in the late afternoon and early evening to see the various animals that come out at those different times of day and night. Of course, you can schedule many more game drives and even a walk with a guide in the national park directly with Thornicroft Lodge any afternoon and evening.
Option 1- Volunteer experience will be primarily focused on working with young children (preschool to grade 7) in two of the Africa Hope Fund supported literacy centers that are located on elementary school campuses. Our literacy centers teach children in grades 2-5 to read and write in English and provide a beautiful environment for children to sing, dance, play games, hear stories and participate in activities that they would never be exposed to otherwise.
Option 2 – Volunteer experience will be primarily focused on working with young adults who are preparing to attend college in January and are enrolled in the Project Luangwa Foundations Program. This year long program helps prepare participants to be successful in college by teaching life skills, English literacy, technology, and leadership skills.
All volunteers will tour each of the six literacy centers that Africa Hope Fund supports.
One of the most beautiful places in the world to see animals. Known for its walking safaris, Zambia is a safe and friendly country. During the 16-day trip you will be hosted by Thornicroft Lodge near the South Luangwa National Park. During your stay you can meet with our children at six different literacy centers and schools during the week, and meet with high school age kids to help them envision their future then enjoy safari game drives in one of the most amazing national parks in Africa. We also have added some special surprises.
