South Pole & Penguins
The most popular itinerary, which includes a journey to the South Pole — visited by fewer than 500 people each year — and an Emperor Penguin colony. Staying at Explorer’s Camp.
Sample Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Antarctica
From Cape Town, a 5.5-hour flight carries you across oceans and sea ice into 24 hours of continuous daylight. Land on a blue-ice runway and toast your arrival with cocktails chilled by 10,000-year-old Antarctic ice.
Day 2: At your leisure
Ease into Antarctica with activities tailored to your pace: glacier walks, abseiling, or even a movie in the ice cinema. Before dinner, an expert-led talk introduces you to the world of Emperor penguins and readies you for tomorrow's encounter.
Day 3: Journey to the Emperors
A 2.5-hour flight along the ice shelf brings you to a remote coastal colony of over 12,000 Emperor penguins — majestic, rare, and utterly unforgettable. This is a wildlife encounter few on Earth will ever witness.
Day 4: Peaks and Panoramas
Hike above the ice sheet to sweeping views of untouched peaks. Pause for a champagne picnic, then venture further with your guide to a breathtaking lookout.
Day 5: Journey to the South Pole
The South Pole awaits. Board our Basler aircraft and fly over vast mountain ranges onto the High Polar Plateau. After a quick refuelling stop at Dixie’s Camp, land at the South Pole and stand at 90°S — a place few explorers have ever reached. Celebrate your achievement, capture the moment at both the Geographic and Ceremonial South Poles, stamp your passport, then return to Dixie’s Camp to overnight like true polar pioneers.
Day 6: South Pole Return
Awaken under canvas on the High Polar Plateau. After breakfast, fly back across the Continent — its scale, from above, as humbling as ever. Back at camp, champagne and a celebratory dinner bring the day and the journey to a close.
Day 7: Nunatak Exploration
Led by IFMGA-certified high mountain guides, move through Antarctica’s most striking terrain, with every route carefully tailored to your safety and experience. From the peak of a Nunatak (a rocky peak rising above the ice), the scale of the last true wilderness comes fully into view.
Day 8: Departure Day
Your departure flight marks the final chapter of your time on the White Continent. As the Airbus touches down on the blue-ice runway, there is time to linger at the Ice Bar, browse the boutique, or catch a film in the ice cinema before boarding for the journey home.
