Shinde

Nestled on a lush palm island in the heart of the northern Okavango Delta, Shinde is an intimate, classic camp located on the edge of Shinde Lagoon, which simply teems with animal and birdlife. The camps unique main area comprises of a multi-tiered dining room and lounge which is set under canvas under the shade of ebony and mangosteen trees.   

The new Shinde pays homage to its former self retaining the authentic classic safari style. The new tents and main area provide a luxury experience with a touch of historical charm. The décor of the new camp can be described as “the best of nature within an authentic safari design – still with the understated, friendly and intimate:. Elegant, Classic, Opulent ‘Out of Africa’. A ‘worldly’ sophisticated safari experience. Every possible comfort has been created for – from full solar electricity and a private viewing deck, throught to yoga mats.

Shinde is situated on a private concession which allows guided walks, Mokoro excursions and night drives in addition to game drives and motorboat trips. Shinde’s excellent location in the Okavango Delta ensures a combination of permanent water access for year-round water activities and large dry areas for game drive routes. This blend of environments provides the habitat for a consistently wide variety of wildlife, including the elusive sitatunga antelope and a healthy population of leopards.   (KD)

Shinde was rebuilt in 2020. Shinde is an iconic camp, one of the first in the Okavango Delta, and loved by many. The new Shinde pays homage to its former self retaining the authentic classic safari style. The new tents and main area provide a luxury experience with a touch of historical charm. Family Tent

Guests are accommodated in a spacious, safari tent consisting of two bedrooms, shared en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower, hot and cold running water and flush toilet. The tents are well spaced, affording privacy whilst remaining within comfortable distance from the main camp area. Roomy enough to sleep a maximum of 5 people. Shinde takes children from the age of 7 years old.

Shinde Enclave

An extremely unique feature of Shinde is its private-use camp, Shinde Enclave. Here, exclusivity reigns supreme in a separate "camp within a camp," while still allowing access to the amenities of Shinde's main camp. The three tented accommodations on elevated on teak platforms overlook vast papyrus and reed expanses dotted with palm islands. Families or small groups of up to six people may reserve Shinde Enclave for private use, and the area includes a private boma and a private dining area and lounge overlooking the lagoon, as well as a personal waiter/barman specifically assigned to this facility and its guests.

Courtesy of its location Shinde can offer both water and land activities year-round. Motorboats or Mokoro provide a chance to experience the incredible bird, plant and reptile species found in the aquatic habitat of the Okavango Delta. Game drives are conducted by a personal guide in comfortable, specially designed game drive vehicles. When out on game drives our window seat guarantee ensures no more than four guests per vehicle and individual use of a camera mount. For the more adventurous, guided walks are also available while fishing enthusiasts will enjoy fishing for a variety of species such as tilapia and tigerfish.

Boat Excursions

Courtesy of its location Shinde can offer water activities all year-round. Explore the Okavango Deltaʼs crystal clear waterways by motorboat, and enjoy the magnificent variety of bird, plant and reptile species found in the area.

Mokoro

Mokoro provide a chance to experience the incredible bird, plant and reptile species found in the aquatic habitat of the Okavango Delta; such as sitatunga, fish eagles, painted reed frogs and malachite kingfishers. Climb aboard a Mokoro with your ʻpolerʼ and enjoy exploring the Okavango Deltaʼs tranquil waterways.

Walking Safari

For the more adventurous, take a guided bush walk to gain a detailed understanding of this diverse environment, which features gems such as red lechwe bounding through marshy areas, a kaleidoscope of birdlife, plus predators and big game.

Fishing

Fishing is available throughout the year (with exception of January and February), with excellent bream fishing from May to September and superb chances of landing tigerfish during September to mid-November. Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy motorboat trips to some of the Okavango Deltaʼs best fishing spots, for a chance to experience the beautiful surroundings before landing a variety of species such as tilapia and tiger fish, African pike and sharp tooth catfish.

Night drives

Night game drives are available after dinner offering the opportunity of seeing nocturnal inhabitants of the area.
