Scuba Club Cozumel

Located on the waterfront one mile south of the downtown ferry dock, Scuba Club Cozumel is an attractive multi-level building of Spanish-Colonial architecture which blends in with the waterfront. No hype. No pretensions. You probably wouldn't know about us unless someone told you. That's how divers find their way here. Built in 1976 as Cozumel's first dedicated diver's resort, Scuba Club Cozumel is still a very intimate place where Cozumel Aficionados find convenience and good value. Designed and built — by divers for divers — to provide all services in one convenient place.

Each morning coffee will be ready for you from 6:00 am. Breakfast starts at 7 am giving you plenty of time to enjoy a relaxed meal before boarding the dive boats.Every day a special lunch is prepared to be ready when divers return from the morning dive trips. The lunch consists of a combination of Mexican, Yucatecan and native Mayan dishes, giving you the opportunity to taste the traditional food from this region.

Scuba-Cozumel is the in-house dive operation for Scuba Club Cozumel resort. This PADI 5-Star facility and full service dive center is located inside the hotel premises and includes an air filling station consisting of four compressors and a four-stage filtering system, a full line of rental gear and basic repairs shop, as well as an International Training Center offering specialty courses and certification at all levels. All diving activities and dive trips are coordinated and scheduled here.

The rooms at Scuba Club Cozumel are spacious, comfortable and have an individual character with a feel of Mexican heritage. All the rooms have a private terrace and most have an ocean view. All rooms are air-conditioned and have ceiling fans, hair dryers, alarm clocks, and a small refrigerator.

Rooms are available in single, double or triple occupancy. King size beds are available, as well as rooms with two doubles. Larger family rooms have two doubles and an additional sitting area with a twin-size bed.

Finished in tile and stucco, they are ready for wet divers. Many of the rooms on the ground floor are just a few steps away from the beach. There are drying racks for dive suits on each terrace.  A few rooms have been remodeled to accommodate the needs of handicapped divers.

Since a diving vacation should also be relaxing, rooms do not have a TV or a telephone. There is free high speed WiFi throughout the resort allowing online access 24 hours a day from the comfort of your own room or patio.

DIVING - Cozumel Dive Sites

Due to the prevailing currents found in Cozumel, all boat dives are drift dives. Divemasters will lead every group of divers. The pace is generally very relaxed. When the currents are running stronger its easiest to go with the flow and let the current carry you over the reefs and through the passes. Naturally some dives are more advanced than others and your guide will help to evaluate your diving comfort level so they may suggest dive sites best suited to your skill level.

Dive sites are between a 10 minute and 50 minute boat ride from the resort.

The newest site in Cozumel is the wreck of the Felipe Xicotencatl located very close to the resort on nearby Tormentos Reef. We make trips there daily (minimum 4 divers) at 3:00 in the afternoon. Cozumel’s reefs are located in a National Marine Park.

Shore Diving

For those divers who can't get enough of Cozumel's undersea life, shore diving is always available just a few steps from your room.

The jagged ironshore limestone wall gives refuge to many juvenile reef fish, lobsters, crabs, octopi, and even an occasional seahorse — great for macro photography.

Depth is about 15'-25' and access is easy from either of the piers using the specially built stairs, complete with handrails.

A very easy exit is found through a tunnel, that leads to a waist deep saltwater pool and a short staircase up to the deck. Night dives here are fantastic, offering unique and memorable creature encounters.

ATV Jungle Tour

Experience the untouched natural paradise of the islands North East side. The tour winds through some of the most scenic views of nature found on Cozumel. You will see exotic plants, wild life and unspoiled breathtaking and undisturbed beaches.

Don't miss a night out on the town

Downtown San Miguel is the hub of all island activities and comes alive on Sunday nights when the residents of Cozumel and their children (dressed in Sunday finery) congregate in the town square between 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

WHALESHARKS of Isla Mujeres

During summer months hundreds of whalesharks aggregate just north of Isla Mujeres to feed on the plankton-rich waters between the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. A day trip from Scuba Club Cozumel is a fun way to off-gas before your flight. Snorkelers are taken by panga boat from Cancun several miles out to where they gather to get.

LA RUTA MAYA - The Maya created a civilization that knew no equal.

Three thousand years ago, in the fertile, sun-drenched lands of Mexico and Central America, the Maya created a civilization that knew no equal. They build magnificent cities, developed extensive trade tours and fashioned ceremonial centers that arched toward the heavens. Today the 1500-mile-long "Maya Route" runs down the length of the Yucatan Peninsula, crosses the jungles and mountains of Guatemala and loops through verdant Belize. The often dreamlike terrain varies from searing white beaches to impenetrable rain forest. Chilling stone faces stare out of the jungle and rivers disappear into seamy, darkening ells. Thousands of stone dwellings, vast plazas and - sacbes - Maya carved roads testify to the greatness of their cities. The intricacy of Maya sculptures and stelae testify to their artistic genius.

Your Cozumel trip would not be complete without a visit to one of these magnificent places. To insure their availability, it is suggested that you reserve your tours upon arrival at the front desk. There they will be happy to assist you in making your arrangements.

COBA - TULUM

Coba is an enormous archeological zone with clusters of ceremonial centers built on the shores of five lakes. Coba is the most mysterious Maya site in the Yucatan. The towering pyramids, soaring above the rain forest, are the most majestic in Mexico. Jungle walking paths - sacbes - connect each center. The tour is guided beginning with a ferry trip to the mainland, then met by air-conditioned bus for a 1-2 hours visit to Tulum, then on to Coba. Be sure to bring comfortable shoes, binoculars, bathing suit, towel, hat and sunscreen.

TULUM and XEL-HA LAGOON

Tulum is a smaller Maya complex, considered the most beautiful of all the Maya sites, located on a cliff facing the Caribbean Sea. The full day guided trip leaves in the morning from the downtown pier with a ferry trip to the mainland, then met by air-conditioned bus. Xel-Ha is a natural aquarium lagoon where you can swim and snorkel. Bring your own snorkel equipment and towel.

CHICHEN-ITZA

The most important civic and religious center of the Maya is Chichen-Itza. It is located 200 miles from Cozumel on the mainland. Tour is by 12-passenger plane landing on archeological area. The tour runs only several days a week, space is limited and fills up early. It is best to book this tour before you arrive in Cozumel. Bring along comfortable shoes, hat and camera. Please be advised that video cameras will pay a fee of $10 US to be allowed in the park. The use of tripods is discouraged. Tour includes all entrance fees, round trip air and bilingual guide.

X-CARET - Natures Sacred Paradise

For a change of scenery, spend a day at this spectacular natural park. Experience exotic flora and fauna. Enjoy a mystical journey back in time while drifting through the Underground River (45 minutes floating over 1,500 ft of crystalline water.) A visit to the Archeological Museum, Open Air Theatre and Maya Village completes this experience, or you can just swim in a pool carved from rock and lie on the beach to soak up the sun. There are four restaurants onsite that serve Mexican cuisine and seafood.
