Dolphins, sea lions, turtles, rays, and orcas all move through the surrounding waters year-round, while frigate birds and blue-footed boobies pass overhead alongside dozens of migratory bird species each year. Daily ocean safaris aboard our 48-foot fast boats take you right into the heart of it all. The waters around San Jose Island in particular are excellent for kayaking and paddleboarding along the sea-carved coastline or through the extensive mangrove forests.
This “pop up” zero-footprint glamping camp sits right on the beach of this pristine island. A large open-air awning provides a shaded space for dining, lounging, and enjoying drinks at the bar — mojitos on the beach, anyone?
Kayaks, paddleboards, and snorkeling equipment are included and ready whenever you are. And when the day winds down, treat yourself to a massage in our dedicated massage tent (available for an additional fee). The camp is fully supported by a 50-ft-plus mothership, along with support boat and 48 ft fast boat for daily ocean safaris and activities.

Enjoy daily ocean safaris aboard the 48-foot fast boat, scanning the horizon for whales and other big critters, and stopping to explore lively reefs along the way. We love being in the water when marine life comes by, and whenever conditions allow, we’ll jump in to snorkel with playful, curious dolphins and sea lions, fingers crossed for close-up encounters with other big pelagics too. Note that interaction with giant blue whales and charismatic humpbacks is from the boat only.
The island is yours to explore: kayak along the sea-carved coastline or through the extensive mangrove forests, paddleboard in calm bays, or put on your walking shoes for a naturalist-led hike among huge cacti to learn about the local flora and fauna. Prefer to relax? Stretch out on the beach with a good book, or mix and match and follow whatever daily rhythm suits you.
In the evening, unwind with marine life presentations from our naturalists, book a relaxing massage, or simply take in the sunset with a freshly prepared mojito in hand, before settling in under a star-filled sky.

Ocean safari adventures and glamping close to the San José Channel — one of the best blue whale hotspots in the Sea of Cortez.
Blue whales, the largest creatures on our planet, gather here each winter and spring, following dense swarms of krill into this nutrient-rich sea. Fin whales, the world’s second-largest animal, are often close behind, as well as humpbacks known for their breaching and songs that carry for miles underwater.
The whales aren’t the only draw. We’ll visit Las Ánimas for snorkeling, just a short ride from camp, a lively stretch of pinnacles and boulders where Guadalupe fur seals and playful sea lions hang out alongside swirling schools of fish. And throughout the trip, keep an eye on the water for dolphins, pilot whales, orcas, and more.
Your captain and naturalist know these waters well, and read the conditions each day to guide you toward where the wildlife is likely to be. Daily ocean safaris aboard the 48-foot fast boat come with real context too: insight into whale behavior, migration patterns, and conservation. Between outings, there’s time to explore hidden beaches and quiet anchorages around the island, walk among huge cacti, and take in the bird life, all adding up to a genuine sense of adventure each day.
