Little Ruckomechi

Little Ruckomechi’s scenic location epitomises Mana Pools National Park in all its abundance. The camp is all about the intimacy of being close to nature and amongst the iconic albida trees that characterise the area. The camp’s location within our private Ruckomechi Concession ensures an exclusive safari experience complete with a diverse range of activities through which to explore Mana, one of the great wildlife areas of Africa.

Built on wooden decks, the handsome en-suite tents are airy and elegant; a reminder of the by-gone explorer era. The living spaces include a dining room and lounge as well as a plunge pool all looking out over the great Zambezi River and the Zambian foothills in the distance. (Wilderness)

Safari Tents
Built on low wooden decks, the handsome en-suite tents are airy and elegant; a reminder of the by-gone explorer era. For sole-use bookings, there are four tents available.

Game Drives
Game drives early in the morning or late afternoon take place in open 4X4 vehicles, taking in a coffee break or a sundowner at a scenic spot.

Birding
The multiplicity of birdlife in the area includes three-banded courser, western banded snake-eagle, Arnot's chat, green-capped eremomela, African golden oriole, Lilian’s lovebird, Böhm's spinetail and Meve's starling.

River Cruises
Cruises down this stretch of the Zambezi River take in the life in, on and around this iconic river. Canoes are a more adventurous option to see the large numbers of waterbirds and other wildlife that are attracted to the river and seasonal pans.

Nature Walks
Mana Pools National Park is a remote, beautiful place that is best experienced on foot, led by a professional guide. This thrilling way of exploring the surrounding bush often heralds many exciting sightings.

Catch-and-release fishing
Bream (tilapia), barbel (catfish) and tigerfish are the some of the more common fish found at Mana Pools. Catch and release is practiced at all Wilderness Safaris camps and keen fishermen are always encouraged to bring their own equipment as we only carry basic fishing tackle.

Many of the non-profit groups and service projects in Zimbabwe focus on improving the health and wellness of the under-served African communities. These groups include Abused and Battered Women and Children’s Home and The Disablement Association. Visitors can help many of these projects via donations. Other projects in this region work to support education in the local communities. Visitors who are interested in responsible tourism can donate school supplies, including books and writing utensils to help improve the primary schools in the area. Wildlife enthusiasts can also contribute to the CAMPFIRE program, which works to help communities surrounding marginal wildlife area. This project accepts donated camping equipment and other items.
