Laba Ngorongoro Crater is now open. Built on the historic site of the former Rhino Lodge, the oldest lodge on the crater, it enjoys an extraordinary location just steps from the Rim and closest to the park entrance. From here, the views stretch across lush forest to the Oldeani and Makarot mountains with breathtaking views of surrounding lush forest and the majestic Oldeania and Makroto mountains, just 40 minutes from Manyara airstrip.
Steeped in history, the original Conservator's house of the former Rhino Lodge has been preserved as a tribute to Henry Albert Fosbrooke (1905-1996), the region's first ecologist who established the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and its UNESCO World Heritage Site status. The symbolic dwelling is now the reception, bar-lounge and boutique of Laba Ngorongoro Lodge.
