Laba Laba Jongomero camp is accessible by light aircraft from Dar es Salam (travel time of approximately 1h50) and is located on the seasonal Jongomero River, a tributary of the Great Ruaha River. It is the most isolated camp, but your safety is one of our top priorities. Enjoy the peace and quiet, safe in the knowledge that assistance is on hand.
The Ruaha River flows all year round, contributing to a rich fauna. The landscape is of incomparable beauty, including several species of trees such as millennial baobabs. Just a few minutes walk from the lodge, you will find forests of large acacia trees. The months of June and July are a veritable African Eden, where multiple species of wildlife rub shoulders, from grandiose elephants to dwarf mongooses.
There is no bad moment to enjoy a safari adventure in Jongomero. Yes, really! During the brief rainy season between December and March, you can spot an explosion of green vegetation that is not to be missed.
(The lodge is closed between March and May due to heavy rainfall).
Each stilted tented suite rests on a wooden deck and is covered by a magnificent Makuti thatched roof. Size: around 50m2. Situated on the bank of the Jongomero River, the viewpoint allows you to observe elephants, kudus, baboons and other bush animals in their natural environment. A wooden deck featuring a comfortable daybed awaits you - enjoy a moment of relaxation upon your return from or before setting out on safari.
As one of the most remote tourist destinations in Tanzania, the Ruaha National Park is one of the least visited national parks. This, combined with its massive size, results in safaris that feel super-exclusive and all the more special with low numbers of game vehicle traffic. In contrast to popular and more iconic national parks or private concessions, it is rare to share your sightings with other vehicles, let alone queues for sightings. There are not many naturally wild places like this left in our world. The Ruaha has a flourishing eco-system that is pristine.
Game Drive
You will be assigned a private 4 x 4 vehicle, as well as an experienced personal guide. Your first safari experience will be close to the camp, with a wide range of local landscapes and wildlife to discover (elephants, lions, cheetahs, leopards, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, and so much more).
In the days that follow, why not try the various walking safaris that we offer?

Walking Safari
This is an excellent way to fully immerse yourself in the surrounding nature and wildlife. You will be able to get up close and personal to the animals), which makes for a thrilling experience full of emotion.
We offer 2 types of walking safari, it is seasonal from end of June to beginning of December
● The nature experience
This walk takes place fairly close to the camp. You will have the opportunity to get close to the surrounding fauna and flora, and also learn to identify which footprints belong to which native animal species.
Option to end the safari experience with breakfast or lunch, in the wild.
In general, the walk lasts between 1.5 to 2 hours.
To ensure your safety, an armed guide and ranger will accompany you.
● The tracking experience
This exclusive safari at Jongomero is better suited to experienced explorers, who feel comfortable in nature and have had previous contact with wild animals.
The tracking methods used are inspired by past hunting techniques. This allows for a tactful approach, on foot and in a small group, to observe lions and/ or elephants.
The animals are first tracked by guides earlier in the morning – you will then follow in their footsteps, literally!
It’s important to note this particular adventure requires a solid briefing and strict adherence with the safety rules. This is both for your safety and to make sure that the animals are not disturbed.
The presence of certain animals can change from day to day – this is just life in the wild. To ensure your safety, you will be accompanied by the Camp’s Head Guide, an armed ranger and a Maasaï member. Participation in this program is subject to the agreement of the Head Guide.
Night Drives
This safari is an experience like no other, that can take place before or after dinner. The choice is yours! You will be able to meet animals that are less present during the day, for example, porcupines, bush babies, and the white-tailed mongoose. If you’re very lucky, you may even spot the elusive aardvark, the mysterious local of Jongomero.
Fly Camping (Jul-Nov)
This fly camping experience is not to be missed! Once again, it is best suited to those who are at ease in nature. You will be accompanied by an experienced guide, an armed ranger and a Maasaï member.
The adventure starts in the heart of the savannah, where you will walk for around 2-3 hours. The safari can be shorter or longer, you can decide. A hot shower will await you at your camp, where sleeping tents have already been installed, with a beautiful view. Enjoy an apéritif at sunset, followed by a barbecue dinner, prepared by your guide. You will then head to your tent and fall asleep to the sounds of the savannah. Breakfast is served the following morning. You then have the choice to continue the adventure with another safari walk or return to camp base.
