Located in the centre of the Jao Concession, Kwetsani Camp is situated on an elongated island covered with palm, mangosteen and fig trees. The surrounding floodplains are home to a number of “Delta specials” – species that are found in few other places on Earth. Some of these may even be seen from the privacy of one of our five “tree-house” chalets, beautifully furnished en-suite units each comprising a bedroom and lounge, and made of canvas, wood and glass.
The raised dining room, lounge and bar area, from where sweeping vistas of the surrounding floodplains stretch to the horizon, often catches the gentle breeze blowing across the waving reeds. A plunge pool with loungers is just right for those sunny afternoon siestas. Highlights Include: (WS)
- Intimate camp with incredible views of Okavango floodplains
- Excellent combination of land and water activities in search of a wide variety of game
- Access to the wildlife-rich Hunda Island adds extra dimension to game drives
Standard Tents
Five luxurious “tree-house” tents are elevated so as to take in the view. Each includes a sitting area and en suite bathrooms including indoor and outdoor showers.
Kwetsani Camp offers excellent land and water activities. In the summer, these tend more towards game drives, whereas in the winter, mainly water-based activities are offered.
Game Drives
Morning and afternoon game drives are offered in open 4x4 Land Rovers, each accommodating a maximum of seven people, allowing each guest a ‘window’ seat. In times of high water guests are transferred by boat to game drive areas.
Night Drives
Night drives with spotlights allow you to find those nocturnal animals you wouldn’t see during normal daytime drives. Porcupine, aardwolf, serval, large spotted genet and lesser bushbaby are just some of these.
Mokoro Excursions*
There is no better way of viewing the Delta and its wildlife than by traditional mokoro (dugout canoe), often revealing the smaller critters of the Okavango Delta and fascinating waterbirds of the region. In summer, guests are driven to the water for this activity.
*This activity is water-level dependent.
Boating*
Boating is another idyllic form or water wildlife viewing often yielding fabulous sightings of hippo and crocodile and maybe even the elusive sitatunga.
*This activity is water-level dependent.
Birding
The Jao Concession has outstanding birding opportunities. With water and land activities, opportunities to grow your list are excellent. Wattled cranes, slaty egrets, rosy-throated longclaws, Pel’s fishing-owls and African skimmers are some of the ‘specials,’ while more common coppery-tailed coucals and pygmy goose are also seen.

Travelers planning an international vacation look to Botswana for its vast, scrub-covered savannah that is teeming with wildlife. This African destination brings visitors who want to view the majestic plains and their natural inhabitants, including zebra and wildebeest. Several National Parks offer great locations to view the landscape and experience the wonders of the Botswana environment. Vacationers in Botswana are thrilled and charmed by the sites. For volunteer vacationers and humanitarians packing for Botswana, there are many non-profit groups and service projects in the area that accept donations.
Many of the service projects in Botswana are focused on improving education in African communities. These groups work to provide underprivileged children with basic classroom supplies. Visitors can donate school supplies, including writing utensils and notebooks, to these groups. Other groups work to improve the physical and mental wellness of the communities; these groups work with at-risk and orphaned youth by providing education, counseling, food, and medical attention. Travelers interested in responsible tourism can donate medical supplies and clothing for children.
