Karanambu Activities
Each day Karanambu offers guided activities based on the season, availability
and guest interests. These activities are usually timed for early in the morning and again in the late afternoon into evening; in addition to being the coolest parts of the day these are also the best times for viewing wildlife. Trips may be on the river by boat, on the savannah by vehicle or along a range of forest trails on foot.
Night Spotting
Along the Rupununi River at Karanambu, you can often find black caimans, bats, snakes and night birds while enjoying the gentle embrace of the dark world and a sky full of stars. This is often readily added to the standard afternoon excursion and well worth trying at least once.
Or opt to explore the vast savannahs by night- Karanambu has numerous areas to traverse and see the wonders of the Rupununi at night.
Take A Walk With A Giant Anteater
At up to 6ft in length these gentle giants are among the nocturnal denizens of the savannahs around Karanambu and are often found foraging in the early morning hours. Starting with coffee under the trees accompanied by the dawn chorus excursions with the assistance of vaqueros (cowboys) set off at first light for this breath-taking adventure. Cubs are often spotted Nov-Feb
Spot A Giant Otter
Known for being noisy and not too shy, family groups of giant otters can (if you are lucky) be observed among the ponds and along the Rupununi River in the Karanambu Area.
A result of over 30 years of conservation, Karanambu boasts a healthy population of giant otters. And one-time orphans sometimes still respond to their names.

Whether you prefer a gentle stroll or a rigorous 3 hour hike is more your speed Karanambu has a trail for you. On your own or with a guide there is always something to see or discover along the way from birds to otters at play or black caimans on the hunt: the ponds, gallary forests and bush islands at Karanambu are always theming with life, maybe even a jaguar if you are really lucky.

Karanambu is the only location with a special MOU with the Guyana Wildlife
Commission that allows for the legal rescue and rehabilitation of wild and
endangered species. Today this includes more than just baby otters, with a juvenile grison, jaguarondi and margay all having been successfully reintroduced to the wild in resent years.
As Guyana’s oldest private protected area, Karanambu does not allow hunting, net-fishing (though traditional line fishing is allowed for indigenous persons), trapping, burning or un-authorized logging.
