Jamtara Camp

Jamtara Wilderness Camp is a 10 luxury tented camp in the heart of rural Pench. Surrounded by tall Arjuna Trees and an ancient Banyan rooted on a dry riverbed, each tent overlooks the forest which sets the perfect background to this jungle experience. Inspired by an ancient Banyan Tree, the community, and the wilderness surrounding the area, Jamtara Wilderness Camp was built to provide an unforgettable experience with sustainability as its cornerstone. Enjoy the ancient forests that once inspired Rudyard Kipling (The Jungle Book), from the comfort of your artistically designed tents.

The entire camp is designed to cause the least impact to our mother nature. A major emphasis on reclaimed wood and furniture. From our solid wood dining tables that are made from logs of mango trees, to the artistic blue flooring which was reclaimed from government buildings and schools in Central India, each piece has its own story to tell. Tents (10)
Each Luxury Tent is designed to allow an optimum view of nature. With the option of rolling up the front panels of the tent, the guests can lounge on the patio, which overlooks a dry river bed. Your privacy is respected at all times with the option to roll down the windows and front panels. Although these are tented rooms, the bathroom has been made into a permanent structure for the comfort of the guests. Enjoy the scenic view of the jungle and be surrounded by natures’ gift not stepping too far from the tent. You can spot the deer grazing in the morning in the backyard and wake up to the sound of wildlife.

Star Beds
We believe Wildlife Conservation is about striking the right balance between the interests of the animals, forests, and the local communities. It is crucial to work with these ancient tribes that have become one with the land, and have watched it change over time. For generations, the villagers have spent their nights in the fields on machans (beds made on raised platforms), to keep a watchful eye on the animals eating their crops. We at Jamtara, wanted to take this opportunity to let our guests have this unique experience.

The Satpura-Maikal region consists of seven tiger reserves and five corridors stretching through three states (Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh) in central India. The area is one of the country’s strongholds of wildlife protection and natural resource-based livelihoods. Within this large region sits the Kanha-Pench landscape, which includes Kanha and Pench Tiger Reserves and the forested land between them in Mandla, Balaghat, and Seoni districts in Madhya Pradesh. The Kanha-Pench landscape has been the focus of extensive and diverse research conducted in the region.

You have now arrived in the wilderness of Pench National Park where Rudyard Kipling took his inspiration from to write The Jungle Book. Our naturalists, eagerly await to take you on your next adventure weather it’s a safari, nature walk, bike ride, or just a stroll through the local village.

As you drive up to Jamtara Camp, you feel the calmness that will surround you for the next few days of your stay, with lush jungles surrounding you and the minimal use of concrete, the city life is left behind.

Wilderness
Wildlife is not only seen in our national parks, but even around us. With an ideal location, of being right next to the national park and away from crowds (being the only camp in the area), there is no disturbance for wildlife to pass freely through our camp. Whether you want to take a walk or a bike ride, our naturalists will accompany you to help identify the flora and fauna around us. Make sure to take your ‘Jamtara Book’ provided in your tents, in order to note everything you see. One of these videos are from the Camera trap around our tents. See who has been visiting.

The Community
This village is quite special to us, from its people to the different activities that took place while our set up took place. Being so remote from any major city, the rural villages that surround us use minimal means of transportation, electronics, and machines, truly transporting you back in time. Their features are farming and growing corn.

Unwind
You have come to disconnect from the mundane day to day city life and to immerse into nature. Why not – DO NOTHING. Jamtara provides for the ideal atmosphere to relax, weather its listening to bird sounds through the day, taking a swim in our infinity pool, reading your favourite book, colouring your bird book or unwinding with your favourite drink listening to Ray Charles on our unique vertical Gramophone. The choice is yours.
