- Big Game + Chimp Trip Itinerary
Situated in one of the prime game viewing areas in the Serengeti, this tented camp is where guests can enjoy uncrowded year round game viewing, and magnificent lion sightings. Rustic yet sophisticated, the tents combine hues of natural grey and accents of stone and bone, reflecting the colours of its seasonal hippos.
The whimsical sweep of flamboyant safari tents hides a blaze of colour in the delightful interiors, with quirky touches and tongue-in-cheek surprises. Al fresco showers are open to the sun and stars, while the calls of hippo provide a nightly serenade. Dinner is prepared in traditional fires, jikos and outdoor ovens and served under a billion stars.
Safari Tents (10 rooms)
Rustic yet sophisticated, the intimate safari tents blend perfectly into their environment with their cool grey colour scheme and bleached cypress construction. Elegant yet whimsical, the interiors provide quirky touches and tongue-in-cheek surprises that emphasise the natural beauty of the African setting.
All ten of the tented suites look out onto the Grumeti River and its resident pods of hippo, while sliding doors open out onto shaded private decks. Discrete butler’s hatches add to the aura of intimate exclusivity. Stone shower towers are open to the sun and stars, while the grunts of hippo provide a nightly serenade. Local sculptured furnishings and lively décor bring alive the excitement and romance of Africa.
Family Tent (1 room)
andBeyond Grumeti has a family tent that can accommodate up to two adults and three children. The suite consists of two luxury tents that are connected by an enclosed walkway made of wood and canvas.
Game drives (Included)
Situated in the Western Corridor of the renowned Serengeti National Park, wildlife viewing at andBeyond Grumeti Serengeti National Park is truly exceptional throughout the year. The camp’s location on a tributary of the Grumeti River means that it is ideally positioned for sightings of dramatic river crossings when the famous Great Wildebeest Migration is in the area. However, the wildlife experience can be even more spectacular when the Migration is not nearby, with a staggering density of year-round wildlife and relatively few tourists encountered in this part of the reserve.
While the camp itself is sheltered in the riverside thickets and provides beautiful views of a river bend inhabited by hippo, game drives venture out into the wide open plains, where guests can enjoy the quintessential Serengeti landscapes in open 4x4 safari vehicles with canvas canopies.
With the Grumeti River providing a permanent water source, the area is particularly rich in predators, with massive lion prides and extensive clans of hyena numbering up to a hundred frequently spotted. The river also attracts large herds of buffalo and elephant, while the open plains are the ideal habitat for cheetah. Riverside drives are bound to spot the massive crocodiles that the area is renowned for, while birders will be amazed by the number of endemic species spotted throughout the area. The thickets near the camp are home to colobus monkeys, which cannot be seen anywhere else in the Serengeti, while the area also plays host to a far lesser known migration, during which large numbers of topi antelope move across the plains.
