Kayak
Kayak in the glassy turquoise waters of Galapagos and become enchanted with the birds and marine species that you will see. There are many calm beaches surrounding Santa Cruz Island perfect for beginner and advanced kayakers. Paddle around the mangroves to see how they provide a vast ecosystem for smaller marine species. Glide across the water and look upon the colorful tropical fish, and possibly marine turtles, small reef sharks, rays, and more.
Snorkeling & Diving
Explore the legendary underwater world of Galapagos, where the waters are teaming with over 3,000 marine species. The Galapagos Marine Reserve is one of the largest marine area projects (MAPs) in the world which help protect important habitats and representative samples of marine life which can assist in restoring the productivity of the oceans and avoid further degradation.
A mixture of cold and warm currents run through this Marine Reserve, providing rich nutrients that sustain sea life from big to small. Here you will find species such as marine iguanas, Galapagos penguins, sea lions, various species of rays, sharks and tropical fish, sea turtles, dolphins and whales, some of which can only be found in Galapagos waters.
Tortoise Reserve
Observe these magnificent (and some) ancient, Galapagos Tortoises, the largest living tortoise species on earth with some weighing up to 417kg (919lbs). With a lifespan of over 100 years (wild) and 177 years (captive), it is one of the longest living vertebrate species known to man. The Galapagos Tortoise is one of many species that is native to the Galapagos Islands.
Darwin Station
The Charles Darwin Research Station (CDRS) is the hub of all current and past scientific research and discoveries. The CDRS has implemented many projects for the conservation, restoration and sustainability of species and habitat in the Galapagos Island. Here you can observe many species and ages of the Galapagos Giant Tortoise and learn about their conservation programs for them. Tour their facilities, where you can learn about Galapagos’s evolutionary history, natural history, and the various native, endemic and invasive species that inhabit these enchanted islands.
Biking
Rent a bicycle and discover the unique and diverse flora and fauna of Galapagos at your own pace. Explore the trails on and off the property. We have some nature trails on the vast property of the Lodge, or venture out on your own. There are a number of close, local attractions in the highlands, such as Garrapatero Beach, farm tours, artisan and sculpture tours among a few. For advanced riders, venture into the town of Puerto Ayora (approximately 40 min ride) and enjoy some of the attractions in town.
Island Tours
Take advantage of a day or multi-day boat tour to visit neighboring islands. Lava Tunnels
Venture deep underground into the ancient lava tunnels of Galapagos. Formed thousands of years ago these lava tunnels (lava tubes) located within minutes from the lodge, form an organic, underground network or walkway that cover approximately 7880 sq kilometers of land across 45,000sq km of ocean. The Galapagos archipelago straddle the Nazca tectonic plate and moves approximately 6.5 cm each year across the South America plate, causing a large amount of volcanic activity.
