Diving!
Surrounded by over 190 miles of spectacular coral reef on one of the Worlds largest barrier reefs, Beqa Lagoon Resort offers divers a gateway to a wonderland of marine life and some of the best diving in Fiji, the soft coral capital of the World. With dive sites that start from as shallow as 15ft (5m) and drop away to nearly 100ft (30m) and beyond in some places, divers are able to dive at a variety of depths, depending on what they are looking for. With year round temperatures ranging between a cool 75˚f (25˚c) and a bathwater 84˚f (29˚c) divers are comfortable in 3mm to 5mm suits.
All of the boat dives are guided by PADI Divemasters who have been diving the waters of Beqa since they were children. Knowing every small hole and hiding place on these pristine reefs they are able to show divers all of the colorful and amazing treasures that these waters hold from Blue-ribbon eels, Clown Triggerfish, Leaf Scorpionfish to camouflaged day Octopus. All the while you dive in a rainbow of vivid pink and orange anthias and silver-blue fusiliers. Take some time to explore sunken wrecks or even feed your adrenaline with the Beqa ‘Big Fish Encounter’, a dive that teases you with huge groupers, bait balls of massive Trevally, and the chance of being up close and personal with 9 different species of sharks. Why not even travel out to the edge of the reef and dive along under the famous Frigates surf break, enjoying your lunch on the boat as you watch waves crash, and sneaking in that third dive before heading back to the resort and happy hour.
The beautiful house reef is perfect for diving any time of day or night, when the fancy takes you. Located straight out from the resort, the reef boast healthy hard corals, numerous juvenile reef fish, rays, and even the illusive seahorse likes to hide in the shallow eel grass. Reaching a maximum depth of 25ft (8m) this site is not only perfect for diving, but makes an ideal protected area for snorkeling your day away. The 5* PADI dive centre has snorkeling gear available for guests, as well as a full range of dive equipment for rental.
Shark Diving!
There are only a couple of places on this planet where you can dive with the “Sea Tiger” eye to eye, up close and personal - one of these sites is Cathedral, Beqa Lagoon Resort’s own Tiger Shark dive.
Cathedral is a once in a lifetime experience - multiple shark species in clear water, just a 15 minute boat ride from our resort. Enjoy diving with multiple Tiger Sharks at a time - the biggest predator of tropical seas - experience big sharks so close you could touch them …
The dive is 65 feet/20 meters deep and the average dive time, due to depth and being a double tank dive, is around 30 minutes - which is why we recommend NITROX for safety
On this dive you will have the chance to see - Tiger Sharks (that was easy to guess :-)) - Bull Sharks - Lemon Sharks - Nurse Sharks - Grey Reef Sharks - White Tip Reef Sharks - Black Tip Reef Sharks - plus a couple of thousand (no exaggeration) small to mid-sized fishes - rainbow runners, napoleon wrasses, remoras, triggers, red snappers to just name a few.
Surfing
Frigates Pass, also known as the Fiji Pipeline, is a perfect world-class left hand break and suggested for experienced surfers only. Located slightly offshore on the south west of Beqa Lagoon barrier reef, Frigates provides surfers with one of the most consistent surf breaks in Fiji. There is no over-crowding on these fast wall rides, or beautiful top to bottom tubes, which lie just a short boat ride from Beqa Lagoon Resort, because Frigate is fairly unknown. Surfers will need to supply their own surfboard and a repair kit is also suggested to bring along.
Fishing
Cast the line and trawl along the reef edge, or drop a line out into the blue, no matter what time of year you are visiting Beqa Lagoon Resort, there is fishing for everyone to experience. Whether you want to go for just a half day, or spend the whole day on the water, sport fishing or blue water fishing, we have the boats and the equipment to help you catch the one that always got away. Spanish Mackerel, Wahoo, Skipjack and Yellow fin Tuna, they are all found in the waters of Beqa Lagoon.
