Amankora Thimphu

Perched in a secluded pine forest overlooking Bhutan’s capital, Amankora Thimphu offers 16 suites blending traditional dzong-style architecture with contemporary design. Within easy reach of Thimphu’s vibrant city center, explore its cultural landmarks, including the Buddha Dordenma Monument, museums and textile factories. Private and peaceful, the lodge provides an authentic experience amid Bhutan’s natural beauty, featuring king-size beds, wood-burning stoves and elegant bathrooms with terrazzo bathtubs. Besides the dining room and outdoor dining deck overlooking the surrounding forest, the resort offers a lounge, library and shop - plus gorgeous spa.

Amankora’s Thimphu Lodge presents unique cultural and spiritual experiences, offering a serene base for exploration of the country’s only capital city. Explore local landmarks and immerse in Buddhist tradition, all the while connecting with the serene Himalayan landscapes that surround.

Pristine pine forests hide this stately 16-suite luxury outpost set high in the Himalayan foothills on the western outskirts of Thimphu. While the stoic white-walled and towering pitched-roof exterior exudes the strength and steadfastness of the kingdom’s dzong fortresses, Amankora Thimphu’s inner world is one of peace and calm. Minimalist suite rooms of polished wood, earthy tones, cozy textiles, and Zen layouts gaze out at the manicured courtyard and wild forests. If nights in the high woodlands get too cold, fire up the traditional wood stove and take a soak in the terrazzo tub, followed by tea on the window-side banquette.

Rising with the sun for early-morning yoga, Amankora’s roster of activities balances outdoor adventure with cultural immersion. Go on guided hikes to isolated villages, learn the kingdom’s national sport with archery lessons, or ruminate on life during a lecture from a Buddhist spiritual leader. If you’re craving a break from the high-mountain stillness, head into Thimphu for a little “big-city” action like shopping at markets or touring ancient temples before returning to the toasty walls of your forest fortress.
