Ruckomechi Camp
Situated in a large private concession in the heart of the Zambezi Valley’s Mana Pools National Park, Ruckomechi looks out from the banks of the mighty Zambezi River. It is a remote, beautiful place with spectacular views of the broad flowing river, the adjacent woodland and the mountains of the Rift Valley escarpment.
Ten spacious and beautifully decorated en-suite tents, including two family rooms, lie beneath the ana trees, best-beloved of local elephant for their nutritious seeds. The camp's central living space includes an inviting firepit for pleasant evenings beneath the African night skies. Other unique features include a pool which overlooks a broad sweep of river, an outdoor “bath with a view” in a secluded, scenic spot, and a romantic Star Bed by a busy waterhole. (Wilderness)
Standard Tents
The eight stylish and generous tented guest suites are built on low wooden decks offering a veranda with broad vistas of the Zambezi River. Each comprise an indoor shower, double basin vanity and separate toilet), canvas blinds that roll up and down for all weather conditions, writing desk and chair, luggage rack, indoor lounge area, pedestal fan, mosquito net, during winter months hot water bottles and extra blankets are provided, individual security canvas bags with padlocks (keys remain with guests) are supplied for valuables which are then stored in a central safe, tea and coffee making facilities (hot water will be provided in the mornings and on request), veranda with deck chairs, multi-plugs adaptor charging facilities for mobile devices, charging facilities (available on request and prior notice essential) for the use of sleep apnoea machines (guests to provide own device, spare battery/ies, charging unit and adaptors).
Family Tents
The two stylish and generous tented family suites are built on low wooden decks offering a veranda with broad vistas of the Zambezi River. with the same comforts as the standard tents, each comprise two en-suite bedrooms.
Sleep Under the Stars
Ruckomechi’s Star Bed is about 400 metres from the camp and you can request dinner or breakfast – a delightful indulgence to enjoy at this romantic and secluded spot.
Game Drives
Game drives early in the morning or late afternoon take place in open Land Rovers, taking in a coffee break or a sundowner at a scenic spot; seven seats allows everyone a window seat. We make our way through the private concession as well as the National Park, accessing a diversity of habitats, and therefore a wide range of wildlife.
River Cruises
Cruises down this stretch of the Zambezi River are in nine-seater pontoons or in a six-seater speed boat. Canoes are a more adventurous option to see the large numbers of waterbirds and other wildlife that are attracted to the river and seasonal pans.
Nature Walks
Mana Pools National Park is a remote, beautiful place that is best experienced on foot, led by a professional guide. This thrilling way of exploring the surrounding bush often heralds many exciting sightings.
Catch-and-release fishing
Bream (tilapia), barbel (catfish) and tigerfish are the some of the more common fish found at Mana Pools. Catch and release is practised at all Wilderness Safaris camps and keen fishermen are always encouraged to bring their own equipment as we only carry basic fishing tackle.
Star Bed
There is no better way of falling asleep than being serenaded by the sounds of nature while you gaze up at the starry skies of Africa. Our romantic Star Bed is situated near a productive waterhole.
Birding
The multiplicity of birdlife in the area includes three-banded courser, western banded snake-eagle, Arnot's chat, green-capped eremomela, African golden oriole, Lilian’s lovebird, Böhm's spinetail and Meve's starling.
