Similan Island Trips
4 nights / 15 dives - 3 nights / 11 dives
In/Out: Phuket
Liveaboards in Thailand are one of the best ways to explore the Andaman Sea, and the Similan Islands are one of the top ten scuba diving and snorkeling destinations in the world. Comprising the nine islands that make up the Similan archipelago plus the outlying islands of Koh Bon and Koh Tachai, the Similan and Surin Islands National Park also includes dive sites around the five islands in the Surin chain. Across this area, you’ll find some of the best diving in Thailand.
Each island and dive site has something for every interest and ability. The diversity of the underwater world in this region attracts scuba diving visitors from all over the globe. New divers will enjoy the calm, sandy bays and excellent visibility, while more experienced divers and underwater photography enthusiasts will love the variety in topography and the extensive macro marine life.
Shallow tropical coral reefs, soaring pinnacles, and massive coral gardens form a breeding ground for multiple fish species and Hawksbill turtles. Wall dives and ridges play host to passing schools of manta rays, and those interested in shark diving have the opportunity to spot several species.
Richelieu Rock is the standout dive site of our Similan Islands liveaboard itinerary. A collection of pinnacles forming a crescent just north of the Surin islands, Richelieu Rock is worth several dives as it's far too big to see everything in just one or two. Underwater attractions range from the very big to the very small, with unlimited macro and the chance to see the largest fish in the sea, the whale shark, which is a common sight here.
South Andaman Trips
4 nights - 15 dives
In/out: Phuket
4 and 5-night South Andaman liveaboard trips explore the best dive sites in the southern region, including Koh Haa Island, Koh Lipe Island, and Koh Phi Phi Island. Liveaboards in Thailand are one of the best ways to explore the Andaman Sea, and the South Andamans provide spectacular underwater scenery and some of the very best scuba diving in Thailand and beyond. The dive sites on our South Andaman Liveaboard include the pinnacles of Hin Daeng (Red Rock), Hin Muang (Purple Rock), Koh Haa (5 Islands including Koh Phi Phi and the Racha islands), and a selection of premier dive sites on route back to Phuket. Many of these locations are only accessible to a few boats, such as MV Deep Andaman Queen, and are only open for scuba diving at certain times of the year.
While many Thailand liveaboards only operate in the North Andaman, we have developed this itinerary to show our guests the full variety of underwater experiences that are available. Although only a short distance away, diving in the South Andamans is different from what you’ll experience on our Similan Islands liveaboard, Koh Lipe Liveaboard, Hin Daeng and Hin Muang Liveaboard, or Myanmar Liveaboard. There is a mixture of pinnacles, rock islands, walls, and sloping reefs, all home to a fantastic array of soft corals and macro life. When you dive the south Andamans, you’ll have the chance to experience shark diving with leopard sharks, whale sharks, and black tips, and see pelagic marine life like manta rays.
The King Cruiser wreck is one of the most popular dive sites on our South Andaman Liveaboard itinerary. It’s the wreck of a passenger ferry that sunk back in 1997. All passengers and crew were safely evacuated, so don’t worry, it’s not a ghost ship! The wreck itself is now teeming with life and covered in soft corals with plenty of nooks, crannies, and passageways to shine your torch down.
Hin Daeng South Andaman Trips
4 nights - 15 dives / 3 nights 11 dives
In/out: Phuket
Hin Daeng (Red Rock) and Hin Muang (Purple Rock) are two of the best sites for scuba diving in Thailand. Situated in Mu Koh Lanta National Park about 100 km (62 miles) south of Phuket, these sites are almost impossible to explore fully without taking a liveaboard trip. They are ranked even higher than the famous Similan Islands and Richelieu Rock and are home to some of the most spectacular marine life in the world.
Because Hin Daeng and Hin Muang dive sites are deeper and prone to currents, this Thailand diving trip is only suitable for experienced divers. With stunning scuba diving throughout the season, divers have a great chance of seeing both whale sharks and manta rays, as well as a colorful array of shoaling fish, pelagic schools, and plenty of macro critters. Although only a short distance away, the diving on offer at Hin Daeng and Hin Muang is different from what you’ll experience on our Similan Islands liveaboard, South Andaman Liveaboard, Koh Lipe Liveaboard, or Myanmar Liveaboard.
The topography of Hin Daeng and Hin Muang is unique. Hin Daeng resembles the tip of an iceberg breaking the surface. The southern side of the reef is covered in red broccoli corals and drops sharply to around 70 meters, whereas the northern slope is more gentle. Hin Muang is a long slender ridge-like reef starting at about 10 meters below the surface and is covered with stunning anemones. Several peaks descend like giant stepping stones down to around 20-22 meters. Walls covered with corals plunge 60 meters to the ocean floor.
Myanmar Trip
7 nights - 20 dives
In/Out: Phuket
The 7-night Myanmar Liveaboard trip takes you to the best Similans and Surin Islands dive sites, and also includes four days of spectacular diving in Burma. This The Thailand and Myanmar liveaboard combination is easily the best way to explore the most stunning and remote dive sites in the Andaman Sea and beyond. Starting in the Similan Islands, you’ll enjoy world-class Thailand diving, followed by an experience that even the most passionate scuba divers are never lucky enough to encounter - diving in Burma!
Diving in Burma only became possible in the late 1990s, and even now, most of the spectacular dive sites remain unspoiled and infrequently visited. Due to the remote location, exploring by liveaboard is the only way to see the best that the Burma Banks have to offer. Further north from the busier scuba diving hotspots of Koh Lipe, the Surins, and the local dive sites around Khao Lak, a whole new world of wonder awaits! Shark diving, amazing macro life, and unbeatable underwater photography opportunities await our guests on this unique week-long diving expedition. Whale sharks and manta rays are common on this route, in addition to a wide variety of pelagic schools and colorful tropical reef species.
The Mergui archipelago, otherwise known as the Burma Banks, features an array of spectacular dive sites and marine life and the chance to get away from it all, avoid the crowds, and dive at your own pace. On the MV Deep Andaman Queen, we’ve developed an itinerary that allows you plenty of time to take in the very best of Burma diving, spending plenty of time at standout dive sites such as Black Rock, Rocky Island, Shark Cave, and Western Rocky.
