The Wilderness Lodge
The Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel, a proud member of National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World, is your Galapagos exploration headquarters, a beachfront base from which to discover the wildlife of the islands aboard the lodge’s private yacht and create your own adventures on land and on sea. The perfect complement to a Galapagos cruise or a destination on its own, a stay at the Finch Bay allows you to feel the islands’ essence. Step right onto the beach from your room at the Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel, positioned on the south side of Santa Cruz Island in the heart of the Galapagos archipelago. Direct, intimate contact with wildlife is inevitable: surrounded by a protected national park whose feathered and scaly residents like to drop in on us from time to time.
Six Finch Bay Suites all offer direct ocean views with private balconies to provide you with your own space for appreciating this privileged environment, while Finch Bay Rooms are a fresh, relaxing retreat, where crisp bed linens, stylish interiors and balconies with space to sling a hammock are standard.
Finch Bay Rooms and Finch Bay Suites offer comfortable interior and exterior spaces that unite guests with the hotel’s natural, peaceful setting. Top Ecuadorian designer Julio Vinueza chose a neutral palette for the Finch’s accommodations, adding black-out curtains, crisp bed linens, and air-conditioning for a good night’s rest.
The hotel’s 6 Finch Bay Suites all offer direct ocean views and private balconies with hammocks and furnishings designed to provide you with your own space for appreciating the privileged backdrop, while 21 Finch Bay Rooms afford shared porches or balconies with their own hammocks.
All rooms and suites have private baths with hot-water showers, hair dryers and other amenities (such as biodegradable soap and shampoo) and all are smoke-free.
While staying with us at the Finch Bay in Puerto Ayora… You could read a book by the freshwater swimming pool or contemplate life among the mangroves… You could feel the rush of adrenalin riding the surf, or the rush of the wind riding a bike downhill towards the shore… You could be amazed with child-like awe at the array of iconic creatures and other-worldly landscapes… You could open up new realms of discovery just by putting your head underwater while snorkeling from our beach or from our private yacht.
HIKE
Explore the otherworldly landscapes formed by volcanic activity, some as recent as 100 years’ ago. Hikes in Galapagos vary from island to island and give visitors the chance to learn first-hand about geology and, of course, to get selfie distance away from fearless iconic island wildlife.
KAYAK
Paddling around the waters of the Marine Reserve is a great way both to get some exercise and spot unique endemic wildlife. Birds rest on the cliffs that form the edges of the islands. Sea lions and their pups lie meters away on the beaches.
MEET GIANT TORTOISES
Up in the highlands of Santa Cruz, we visit a giant tortoise reserve. In the wild, tortoises can be seen grazing on the surrounding vegetation, or wallowing in muddy banks or in a small red-colored pond (impressively colored by surface red pond-weeds).
SNORKEL
Beginners and experienced snorkelers alike will quickly fall in love with snorkelling in Galapagos. The Marine Reserve showcases numerous unusual coloured fish species, enormous sea turtles, and harmless sharks. And sharing the water with playful sea lions is, of course, an unforgettable experience.
SCUBA DIVE
In the myriad shades of blue of the Pacific Ocean, live sharks, snake eels, sea turtles, mantas, amberjacks, and barracudas as well as tropical fish, multi-colored sponges, moray eel, octopus, and more – sharply focused in the crystalline waters. Divers often report playing with curious sea lion pups, watching a marine iguana on a mission, and the heart-stopping thrill of being surrounded by hammerheads. This is a universe all of its own, unsurpassable to divers in variety and abundance of marine wildlife. The Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel offers PADI-designed programs to allow guests to experience the thrill of scuba diving in a safe and fun environment while enjoying the best the Galapagos has to offer. A comprehensive underwater experience for adventurous divers who want to take home unforgettable memories, the diving programs include most dive sites within the Central Islands.
SEA LION ISLAND BOAT TOURS
Marvel at the beauty of the Galapagos’ Central Islands aboard our very own Sea Lion Yacht – one of only 12 yachts in the Galapagos that offers day tours to the Galapagos National Park in the company of certified Naturalist Guides. In addition to offering exclusive Day Tours, each of which is limited to 20 guests, you’ll embark on a Galapagos Day Tour that’s endorsed by National Geographic!
BIKE
What better place to enjoy your pastime of biking than on Santa Cruz Island: Beautiful views, little traffic and unique animals on either side of the path. Easy downhill paths lead to walks to the beach accompanied by birdwatching opportunities. A great family activity!
